Welcome to RV There Yet Tuesday, where I discuss everything, RV and Full Time RV life related, whether it's some DIY, our beginnings of the journey or just random tidbits on this wild ride. This category is everything RV related. I hope I've helped you join the fold of the RV life, or have inspired you to chase your dreams. Please read on, and leave comments below if you have some additional experiences to share we'd love to hear them...
My editor has always stated that " You rush through things too quickly." I agree so I'm trying to improve here. I have given a lot of advice on the RV life: tools to take with you, expenses of the full time RV life, having pets in the full time life and much, much more. This start is an article on the moment our wheels began to turn, quite literally, and our RV life genesis. The RV life came to both Maria, my spouse, and me in a few different time periods. So ultimately, I'm starting from the beginning, for those of you who have missed my story, and want to learn or are considering the life. If you're interested in how a person comes to this decision and to help immerse you into the experiences we love the most, you've come to the right blog. I hope you enjoy, and if you have a good experience with the Full Time RV life or want to join and need direction, please reach out to me and I'll do my best to share my personal growth and experience.
We returned to being a married couple, after our 7 children became adults and flew the nest each of them discovering that there's a whole new self sustained world to explore...
It was September 2019. I planned a trip to NYC. I had recently moved our middle child to the Big Apple and Maria really wanted to see her new digs in the city. So I planned a trip from Michigan across to the northeast. This was going to be the first trip with our 1995 Airstream Motorhome and pulling the car behind on a tow dolly, an experience in itself. After the hiccups with the tow straps and the learning curve with the tow dolly in the making, we trekked across Ohio, and then into the western part of New York State. Travelling during the fall is the best because this is off season, allowing stops where you might never stop, we stopped at a resort campground for the night. The video tour of that campground is here for those interested: Camp Chautauqua / New York / Day One / The Arrival
Without further adieu we traveled into New York State with inclines never before done by me in a Class A. Watkin's Glen, comes to mind, and although in hindsight this was a baby of an incline compared to the PNW, this was my first doozy of a climb. I think this is what screwed the thermostat up on the Ship, which is another story.
After some overheating, and a reroute, because Google wanted to take us on a scenic parkway used only by passenger cars, Maria and I were surrounded by state land in the Hudson Valley of New York State. The campground, Fahnestock State Park, was rustic: no water, electric or sewer. We were in with the Airstream, our first Class A motorhome. Our site was number 27 and we were tucked into a small "valley-esque" situation, surrounded by trees, nature and no other humans in the line of sight. As the moonlight seeped in through our dark bedroom we listened to the silence of the quiet park. We could hear fire snapping on someone's campfire in the distance, but a quiet hush was the eminent factor. At some point we turned to each other and said, almost in unison, "We could do this full time". That moment was when my wheels began to turn.
