What happened to Part III of my first Metallica concert and the "bruised man" story, that cool ass blog about the 1990's? That'll resume next week (in the meantime, here's Part I & Part II to catch up with).
Today, I'm tapping into Stevats, the town where all weird things happen. The place that once you enter, you're in a world of secrets, and if you're one of the lucky people, you'll know them and harbor them until you die. I'm going to let you in on a break down of this town, and hopefully extract what this little "ass crack" has to offer, or rather, has lurking in the shadows.
Today, I'm unveiling the dark secrets of Stevats...
The past haunts the present in Stevats:
I'm proud to have built my midwestern mythos around Stevats. Whether you've delved into my horror stories, or have jumped into Life Ship, a sentimental coming of age novella, a slice of Stevats is served. The town offers the history of Sunflower Row, where hangings took place. There's the beauty of the beach, where a dead body washed up to the sandy shoreline on Lake Unega. There's the rushing Unega River, another contrast mixed with beauty and the morbidity as Stevats' Slayer leaves a treat for the world to observe. There's Acorn Park, a serene place, and under it all, another heinous crime comes to the forefront. Audubon Hill is home to Suncrest Nursing Home and Darkrest University, historical institutions, but in the ominous woods there's a masked ceremony where individuals read taboo speeches about the dead. There are so many twisted surfaces that taint the humble undercurrent. The past and present, a woven web which evolves, is always intertwined. Stevats lives, breathes, and wants you to come visit, but the secrets are only brought to the light in foreboding nuances.
In Conclusion:
Stevats is more than a backdrop for my fiction, it's a character in itself. The Midwest tourist trap is a locus of hidden rituals and secrets. Supernatural occurrences, a current of darkness and intense personal struggles are a fever of rampant, albeit, dysfunctional, normalcies. Actions and bizarre creations all contribute to a sense of pervasive strangeness. Stevats defines the larger scope of my fiction, and I will always give life to this place and gift my readers a liminal, bizarre taste of small town horror in every sentence. I present to you Stevats, a place that creeps into your dreams, drops you into the abyss and only lets you out when you've finished reading.
Thanks for taking some time out and reading the blog, don't forget next week is Part III and retelling the very first Metallica concert I ever attended (fictionalized and introducing the real life "bruised man" and the nostalgic 1990's).

Sure, I could live in Stevats.I wouldn't get too involved with people, but the old western town, historical buildings and the voodoo in the woods sounds fascinating.
