This category is everything RV related. I hope I've helped you join the fold of the RV life, or have inspired you to chase your dreams. Please read on, and leave comments below if you have some additional experiences to share we'd love to hear them...
By the time we left Port Huron with our Airstream, all packed and the the only home we had, we went south to Florida. I constructed the DIY Inspection list, from last weeks blog, and with that in hand, we anxiously drove down I-75 and began the next step, finding our "new" home on wheels...this was Our RV Dream Realized and The Quest for Our Dream RV...
We arrived in the October heat of Florida where the humidity tuck to skin like glue and the A/C was necessary still. I had a list of Class A's that we wanted to look at. The list was exhausting. We drove from one part of the state of Florida to the next, hitting brick walls, delaminated RV's, RV's with odometers that were scrambled, and Class A's with household beds installed in lieu of typical built in beds (I list some video proof and links below). We were spent, frustrated, and prices were slightly inflated. Since COVID had somewhat shed its stigma, and took the RV industry sales by storm, EVERYTHING was inflated, including the cost of used Class A's.
We were going to be stuck with the Airstream, or so we thought. I sat in the Airstream's barrel chair, a mere three feet from Maria, and Cocoa, who rested next to her, I stumbled on a private seller from marketplace. I reached out and set up an appointment for the next day. This was for a 2005 Newmar with a Chevy Workhorse Chassis, and it had everything we wanted.
We barely slept and when we pulled up to the house where the Newmar lived, exploring it in and out, like children on Christmas morning, and falling in love with it. The Newmar checked every box and passed my DIY Inspection List, I made an offer that the sellers couldn't refuse. We purchased it within an hour and a half, a half hour of that time was driving in the idiotic Florida traffic to get a cashiers check.
We were now proud owners of the new Mothership, our new house. Three slides, all the room we ever needed, and then some. I drove her home to Hudson and behind the steering wheel I was proud. I saw Maria driving behind me with the car and was overwhelmed by the idea that we did it. This was the life, that we both wanted, and was a life that would grant us freedom in our days together. This lifestyle would open up roads to places we never would have explored before. I had a lot of work to do to prepare, including getting tabs and plates for the motorhome. Not to mention breaking in the new house and working out the potential issues we would stumble on. It was ours, paid and full with cash, and would help us pave an exploratory future together in the full time RV life.
I backed the Mothership into the driveway, cleaned the old Airstream out, moved our lifelong belongings into the Newmar, and listed the Airstream. Within six hours she was sold, test drove, and two days later I parked it safely in the new owner's driveway. This was the beginning of the life we had dreamt. Now, to prepare for the winter, getting a job in Florida, and to search a workamping job for the following summer. Life was good...
