After the Landing, How the F**K do I Acclimate?

The Mothership landed and it was filthy with road rash ( salt, rain, dust, and any other element that sticks to the skin). The next day I washed her up and she was as good as new. I had to kill time before starting my first fucking day at the new job at the Prickly Pear Grill. I'm going to protect the true identities of all I encounter to ensure their privacy, this includes and is not limited to, the entitled people, the beautiful people (all the work campers) and the people who blend in.

Work was less than half a mile so I walked. On my walk to the grill nose lookers (people who instantly snub you if you're wearing a work camper shirt: bright yellow, adorned with a prickly pear) were abundantly shunning me. I ignored those entitled fucks and held my head up. Fifteen years working in retail, a "service industry" that paid my bills was a direct result for my thick skin.

The Prickly Pear was nestled next to a large pool. There were two hot tubs, one surrounded by three walls for privacy, and one out in the open, an opportune location for the voyeur in everyone (at least for the "runners" and "cooks" of the Pear). I was greeted by my boss, Darryl, and he introduced me to a tall man with a large nose, and tall man's wife.

The man reached out to shake, "The name's F.A Richard. You can call me Richard." He laughed and I didn't get the fucking joke, or his humor, at all.

Darryl proceeded with introductions, "This is Richard's wife, Tonya."

Tonya was much shorter than Richard, her voice was mousey and quiet, "Nice to meet you," she said, smiling.

Darryl then waved over a man with a chef's hat. I assumed this man was my boss, because he demanded attention to the room with a bright smile, tall stature and deep voice.

"This is Rashawn," Darryl introduced.

Rashawn was holding raw chicken breasts and Darryl continued, "If you're not too busy could you show Tim the ropes today?"

"I sure can." Rashawn said. He walked to a stainless steel grill and threw the chicken breasts on. My journey in a line of work I hadn't done since high school, was about to begin, and, so far, I was paired with one of the smartest I was introduced to.
