Close to Leaving Home and Hitting the Open Road

Welcome to RV There Yet Tuesday, where I discuss everything, RV and Full Time RV life related, whether it's some DIY, our beginnings of the journey or just random tidbits on this wild ride. This category is everything RV related. I hope I've helped you join the fold of the RV life, or have inspired you to chase your dreams. Please read on, and leave comments below if you have some additional experiences to share we'd love to hear them...

The RV Dream continued to call as Maria and I prepare and get close to Leaving our Home, Dark Nest, and Hitting the Open Road...

I finished projects that had been left unfinished for so long they had become just a natural part of the house. These were those projects that linger, linger, and linger until finally blending in with the natural aesthetic. Fading, peeling porches and doors. A shed that needed touched up, some odds and end landscaping that had grown out of control. Lightning the dark walls inside, etc., etc.

Maria and I discussed our plans with our family, and most importantly our adult children, who all supported our decision, and if they didn't, they held the tongue quite magnificently. That spring and summer our adult children who wanted sentimental items, i.e. books, antiques, DVD's, and whatever else in between that may have caught their eyes, came over, visited for the weekend, nurtured video calls to those who couldn't make it, and sorted through picking out the items they wanted. Dark Nest, except for one other project, was well on the way for staging and ready to sell.

We were coming near the end of a lifestyle that we had known in a Sticks and Bricks. Maria and I were making our dream of RV'ing a reality. Remember we had camped for over twenty years, and the past two to three I have known the in's and out's of our Class A (a different animal than the other travel trailers we used to camp with over the years).

I looked into life as a full time RV'er, as much as I could, learning about Diesel Pushers and Class A Motorhomes. I had to figure out a gasser's (a motorhome that uses gas) mileage versus a diesel's mileage, and narrowed our search down. We wanted a motorhome no younger than on '05 and older than an '08, because these were the newest years that held a Chevy Work Horse chassis, which the Airstream had, and which was more reliable, in my opinion, than the other gassers on the market. We went to Florida for more sun, I did more writing, and we were back to Michigan in '22, to finalize the last step before launching. Things were getting exciting!

One last Dark Nest project was finished, I lined up a realtor, and Maria and I decided to make it easy, stage the house with what little we had left, and live in the Airstream in the back yard so we didn't have to worry about when potential buyers browsed. As bitter sweet as selling Dark Nest was, we were chomping at the bit to hit the road, but needed some patience...because real estate could be a funky business, and, as we found out, the human element ever more challenging.
