Welcome to RV There Yet Tuesday, where I discuss everything, RV and Full Time RV life related, whether it's some DIY, our beginnings of the journey or just random tidbits on this wild ride. This category is everything RV related. I hope I've helped you join the fold of the RV life, or have inspired you to chase your dreams. Please read on, and leave comments below if you have some additional experiences to share we'd love to hear them...
We said our goodbyes to the bride, our daughter, and the groom, our new son, and ventured from Michigan southwesterly. Maria and I were nervous, excited, and had all the feels because this was a long trip, one of the longest at this point in the full time journey. Not only had we never been to the desert, we always had a interest in seeing and view the surreal life of potential alien spacecraft?...lol. I jest, but there's still the writer's side of me that has some hope in cryptids, especially for them to invade and give me a glimpse of a hopeful apocalypse, or even existing.
The only notable-negative thing, until we arrived into New Mexico, was the fact that the toll in Oklahoma was cash only. Little did I know we had stuffed our cash tin inside a cabinet that was blocked behind one of our slide-outs, lesson learned. Fortunately, the Oklahoma tolls had a solution, exit at the next exit, get money from an ATM, and when I get back onto the toll, pay up. Archaic, yes, but that's what I did.
All toll debacles aside, we ventured westward through some of Texas and into New Mexico. The vast desert sprawled before us, cool nights, and warm days. For as far as our eyes saw, there were tumbleweeds, red earth, and the occasional mountain range that sprang up like earthy mounds from the unknown depths below. If I had issues with reality, I would have thought we flew to another planet? LOL
We arrived at a campground that was built just for tourism, Trailer Village RV Park, east of Roswell (my video content here on YouTube). By that I mean each site were on top of one another, but provided full hook ups. I unhooked the Hyundai, set the Mothership up, and visited. One of the only downsides is, if you have a dog that needs grass, the southwest doesn't provide it. Sometimes you can find a patch here and there, but expect rocks and dirt. Fortunately, our little Cocoa did his thing anywhere. There is oftentimes a dog park somewhere that may or may not feature grass.
I loved the giftshop of the campground and found EVERYTHING alien, and even bought a t-shirt that featured our logo on the Mothership. If alien garb, keychains, magnets, and anything in between, are your thing, you will find it in Roswell. Once settled in, we took a trip through the run down little place. We learned that the actual crash of the "UFO" happened quite a handful of miles from the city. We got our fill of cryptid art just walking through and admiring the murals, the full sized aliens and even adored the quaint set up at the welcome center featured below. After spending a few days browsing, I think we were burned out on the green creatures, we realized it was time to drive north towards Albuquerque. The ultimate in my site seeing, touring, and the coupe de grace of this journey toward Arizona was on the horizon. Don't worry, I'll bring you along.
Sidenote: If you're into birds, which we are, some times during the year, when birds are migratory, you can go to nearby Bitterlake National Wildlife Refugee and view all the avian eye candy you can handle. (videos here on my YouTube if you want to check them out).
Stay tuned next week when I bring you Breaking Bad!
