Welcome to WOW Wednesday Movie Pick, brought to you by Tim Eagle.
In the world of Working on Wednesday, (WOW), I give you a middle of the week movie pick, and a quick review!
Today I'm reviewing, The Front Room, a movie that will definately give you something to talk about at the water cooler Thursday or Friday. I hope this pick of the week gives you something to add to your movie list!
This movie is a typical arthouse style movie that pulls you into the psyche of each character. A man moves his step-mother, a religious fanatic, into his home forcing a wedge between himself and pregnant wife. While this is a trope that some of us are familiar with, the acting and characters, as well as the directing and plot will both shock you and horrify you in subtle nuances. While watching you can feel the unravelling madness that Belinda, the pregnant wife, feels as the mother-in-law steps across boundaries, forming an uncomfortable living condition for even the thickest of skins. As Belinda has the baby, she is further undone, as she has to face the fact that the in-law tries to get her claws on the baby and is in the house as a permanent fixture no matter what she does or says. As always, A24 delivered, yet another, cult classic with this one.
