Welcome to WOW Wednesday Movie Pick, brought to you by Tim Eagle.
In the world of Working on Wednesday, (WOW), I give you a middle of the week movie pick, and a quick review! WOW! Is Jenny Pen worth the watch? Yes, why yes it is...read more below...
Today I'm reviewing, The Rule of Jenny Pen... Okay, I’ve seen so much about this movie that I was hesitant to buying a digital copy. It was on sale, and I jumped at the chance to add it to my streaming collection. I went in thinking penitentiary, but it has nothing to do with that, I also went in thinking the movie was about a possessed doll, guess again! Thank goodness I was wrong in my assumptions to many movies dealing with the aforementioned tropes. The movie was difficult because watching one of my many favorite actors, John Lithgow, play his age, was a little heartbreaking (because actors don't really eat baby fetuses and stay young, he aged like all of us, duh!), but he acted with gusto, and still has the capabilities to play a sadistic old man milking a life in an old age home, he was just as psychotic as I remember him in a movie from ’92 called Raising Cain. The premise of Jenny Pen was that a judge has a stroke, gets admitted to a care home, and his condition does not improve. In the meantime, there is a man, Lithgow, who torments the residents with a puppet on the end of his hand, named Jenny Pen, the namesake comes from a singer known by the residents and apparently a known singer in New Zealand. The movie has some triggers: elder abuse, some rape scenes (mild to say the least) and just when you didn’t think you guessed the ending, you probably did. This movie ranked high on my list, up there with the newer releases like Sinners, and others I have recently reviewed. The movie meddled with old age, the terrors of no staffing to care for the elderly, and a man getting away with abuse will terrify you, and if not, shame on you. I think that you should buy, rent or just stream this one and add yet another movie to your watch list. This movie does not disappoint.
